For many homeowners, underfloor heating means selecting quality pipes, boilers, and system components. However, insulation boards often receive far less attention.

To reduce costs, some small manufacturers may use low-quality materials with unclear origins in their insulation boards. Although these products can look similar to those made from virgin materials, their performance and consistency may be significantly different.

An even more common practice is blending virgin materials with lower-grade recycled content without clear disclosure. The lower the cost, the higher the proportion of these materials may be.

It is important to note that recycled materials themselves are not the issue. In many countries, certified recycled materials are widely used and strictly regulated. The real concern is the lack of transparency and quality control behind materials of unknown origin.

Once installed beneath the floor, these products remain out of sight for years.

Today, many products are marketed as being made from "100% virgin material" or "environmentally friendly materials."

The question is: can these claims be verified?

Where do the raw materials come from?

Can the supplier be identified?

Are there inspection records or third-party test reports?

A manufacturer with its own production facility typically has greater control over raw materials and quality standards.

2. Can the raw materials be traced?

Ask where the materials come from and whether sourcing and inspection records are available.

3. Is there a transparent way to verify the claims?

The most reliable manufacturers are willing to show how their products are made.
